One of the distinctions of University Baptist Church is the way we make a difference in our community and our world. Here are just a few ways we are giving hope to a hurting world.
We help our neighbors by meeting their needs in times of crisis.
Good Samaritan Food Pantry — “When I was hungry, you gave me food.” We are the proud host site for this wonderful cooperative effort of the churches of the Carbondale Interfaith Council. Dozens of families are helped weekly.
University Baptist Church Clothes Closet — “When I was naked, you gave me clothes.” We stock the largest clothes closet in the area, giving away clothes to whoever has a need. We have been able to help people who have been burned out of their homes, have helped people during natural disasters, and even have shipped clothes overseas to meet global needs.
University Baptist Church Medical Equipment Loan Closet — this modest ministry offers the loan of select medical equipment items such as crutches, walkers, canes, and the like to individuals in the community who might benefit from the short-term use of these items.
International Student Wives Ministry — every Thursday afternoon, international student wives gather here at University Baptist for a program of singing, Bible Study, English as a Second Language, sewing, and many other activities. Refreshments are served by the churches of the Nine Mile Baptist Association.
While active locally, University Baptist keeps the whole world in view.
Mission Support — as a part of the Southern Baptist Convention, University Baptist Church supports the largest missionary sending organization in the world. Many of our members also support the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship through designated offerings.
